And cloggies may look up the Wereldreizigersclub. German magazine GEO shows nice pictures and introductions to countries. Beethoven on the stereo, a good glass of port, nice cheese, and reading the Guide to the World's Most Dangerous Places is the perfect Christmas pastime for me. Lonely Planet's Thorn Tree is a good source of information. The Mastercard ATM-locator helps you doing just that for "seven continents". I haven't used this site yet on any of my trips, and don't know if all these ATM's also accept CIRRUS-cards. You may want to check at the IPPA-site with info in Dutch and French. Good travel advice can be found from the British Foreign Office. The CIA World Fact Book gives you loads of statistics on things you may not even want to know. The Country Studies of the Library of Congress are pretty informative general introductions. The United Nation's Human Development Index gives a rating of 174 countries and territories. You may want to check your destination (or your home country) on the Corruption Perception Index from Transparency International. Some nice impressions and excellent layouts can be found in Atlas Magazine. People on the beach of the Gili Islands or Ko Phangan who carry Rough Guides and Lonely Planet books call themselves "travelers". Here is a site about the real thing.

Traveling - Cambodia Beauty and Darkness: Cambodia in Modern History tells you just that. Pictures and information on Angkor Wat can be found on Angkor. Good info on Angkor Wat at this academic site. Nice info on other anthropological and archeological sites as well. More info on Angkor Wat can be found on Cambodia Web. Andy Brouwer has his own trip reports, plus info on a lot of other old temples in Cambodia, as well as a good overveiw of links and a long list of books on the country. Recommended. Gordon Sharpless' Tales of Asia takes to Anglong Veng, Pol Pot's last hideaway. He also links to articles on the final days of Brother Number One and the Khmer Rouge. The Cambodia Genocide Program gives info on the Khmer Rouge days. Information on the various museums on the Legacy of the Khmer Rouge. South-East Asia a'la Larry has some interesting stories about Cambodia, good links, plus Larry's own travel stories and pictures.

Traveling - Ethiopia "A Journey Through Ethiopia" gives a nice description of the north and center of the country, as well as more information on Ethiopian fauna and history. The ACG Ethiopia Page gives you the best set of links to other sites. St. George is another site with links, this time in Amharic, French, and English. It uses Ethiopian background tunes. The Ethiopian Jewry Page is concidered "the internet's best resource on Ethiopian Jews." It includes history, cuisine, etc. Stuart Munro-Hay's site gives you lots of info on the history of Axum. The Oromo Religion of Ethiopia page describes the religious practices of the Oromo.

Bill Hocker has pictures from Hong Kong from the 1970's, when you still had professional letter writers in town. Nice pictures from other places (Italy, San Francisco) as well. Antoine Elinik's homepage contains a lot of info and pictures, also about the other islands that make up Hong Kong. Evelyn Wang shows you the homeland of most Hong Kong Chinese: mainland China.
